NEW WILMINGTON, Pa .– Sports management students at Westminster College will host a virtual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event April 11 through May 8 to support the Crisis Shelter of Lawrence County (CSLC) and call for an end to assault and violence sexual.

Students of the Sports and Events Planning and Management Synthesis Course partnered with Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, an international campaign encouraging men to go a mile with women’s high heels as a symbol of wrestling. against sexual violence.

“They say you can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile for them,” said Ben Romah, a recent sports management graduate from Coraopolis, Pa. , who added that the timing of the event coincides with April. Sexual Assault Awareness Month. “We want to educate the community about domestic violence, sexual assault and other forms of gender-based violence. These problems will not go away until they are brought to attention.

This is the second Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event hosted by Westminster students. An in-person walk took place in 2018 and last year’s one was canceled due to COVID-19. This year, the prevention, awareness and fundraising event is taking place virtually.

This year, participants can register online and ride their mile when and where they prefer: their treadmills, their courses, their neighborhoods or their cities. The promenade is open to people of all ages.

Proceeds from registration fees will benefit the CSLC, a local organization committed to providing leadership initiatives to help end physical, sexual and emotional violence.

In an effort to raise additional funds for the CSLC, students are also selling 12-month calendars featuring photos of Westminster faculty, staff and students, including representatives from various sports teams and student organizations, bearing the iconic red high heels associated with the international Walk a mile in his shoes.
Registration for the walk is $ 15 and includes a running t-shirt and digital bib. Calendars are available for $ 5. All profits go to CSLC.

To register for the walk, visit RunSignUp.com, click on the “Find a Run” icon and search for Westminster College. Once registered and after receiving a confirmation email, return to the race registration page to download a bib. Participants are encouraged to take photos of their walks and post them on the official @WCwalkamile Twitter account using # WCwalkamile2021.
